Tomb Raider 2 Corner bugs

I found two interesting things while playing TR2 recently. These are not totally new things, rather smaller changes, tricks regarding to a well-known phenomenon, the corner-bug. Now it's time to confess, shame or not, that I've never managed to trigger this phenomenon so far - at least not deliberately (maybe once in TR3), though that I always thought I know how to make it. But the truth is that I was never interested in this thing so much that I'd have enough motivation to look after it, or try it longer than some minutes. With this mail I hope I can make up for my missings a little bit. Maybe it was not just an accident that Jason McAllister encountered this bug first in TR2. I managed to "discover" it also in this game, but with a different method from his. If this is a known thing, and only I don't know about it (which can be possible according to the things above), than jump to the next paragraph.

Corner-bug Advanced (sender Lacek)

How the whole thing had started, I don't really know. I just pulled the switch in the alcove where Lara is standing in the movie or the savegame, and while running back something had happened that egged me to stay at that corner for some minutes. If I am right, after a narrow turn Lara stucked to the corner, and partly merged into it. After this, with various methods I managed to merge her into it completely, which sequence was followed by a corner-bug. Because in my case, this was not a single pillar, and there was also a ceiling, she fell down properly immediately after I released the button I was holding down. Interesting it was that it worked at all corners I tried out, and in addition it was reassuring in case of flat walls too. But trying out another level I had to realize that it's not working everywhere, because not all of the pillars are so "special" that Lara can get stucked in them. Here, in Bartoli's Hideout it works at many places. Now about the method detailed: Stand next to a pillar, close to the corner, and face it. It is a common thing that if you'd start running now, nothing would happen, but turning to the right there's a point when Lara secedes from the wall by sliding on its surface, and starts running. At some corners, with a good positioning, at this point Lara stucks to the corner, and parly merges to the wall. Now, holding Forward and hitting the tiniests to Left or Right (depending on where you are standing) will cause her to merge even more. When half of her body is in the wall, simply turn back a little bit toward the direction of the corner, and you will encounter the easiest and without jumping caused version of the corner-bug. While holding down Forward, Lara won't fall back, even if there's a ceiling above. To tell it much easier, it's like turning into the wall, as you can see it in the movies. Just a little practicing and it will work after a few seconds; so with this method the corner-bug can be performed very quick. Easy on hand, huh? ;) Download savegames

Corner-bug bug: (sender Lacek)

Now I'll tell you about a very interesting, maybe never-seen thing, the bug of the corner-bug. :D By loading the movie or the savegame you can immediately see what I am talking about. Pressing the look button will allow you to see Lara suffering in the wall, as she can't fall back, because something keeps her back. You can reach this by performing the corner-bug at a corner with ceiling, and rolling while holding down Forward. After that, Lara gets stucked in the wall, and can't come out, only trying it. I don't know whether it works everywhere, because I haven't tried it out so far. Pressing Roll will make Lara dropped out of the wall. Probably this phenomenon gives answer to the atlantis ice-skating effect, about what we were already chatting before. I hope I could tell you some new things, and the most diligents and the ones who know more about the corner-bug than me, can develop this idea further. But I think I'll play with it a little bit yet... :) Download savegames

"The Great Wall" - Some "ceiling-stuck corner bug"...
As we know, TR3 has several "corner bugs", where Lara stucks into the ceiling. Now, these are just the first "ceiling-stuck corner bugs" from TR2! Naturally, the "Distance Travelled"-value is highly inreased again, on the statistics-screen...(Jani) Download

I found this Corner Bug on the Floating Islands level. Just stay to the corner of the right-hand column next to the large carved gate in the right position and jump up on the top of the stone wall. Now you can drop down into the inner courtyard so the 2 Mystic Plaques are unnecessary. :-) [Petúnia, 2003-09-21] Save
